How to Make a Blueberry Matcha Latte and Blank Street's Spring Menu

We love our stockist, Blank Street, beautiful interiors, home of incredible customer service and winners of the European Coffee Awards 2023 Best Coffee Chain – UK & Ireland. They’re shaking up the coffee scene by combining fun, bold recipes with quality. From candy cane cold brew to the iconic blueberry matcha latte, Blank Street make even the die-hard espresso fan intrigued by its specials.

How did Blank Street Coffee Start?

Since starting out in 2020 with a simple coffee cart in Brooklyn, Blank Street has been a customer-centric, quality-first operation. In 2022 they decided to launch in London, and recently Manchester.

Blank Street is a carefully considered brand, the design of its location on Pudding Lane is particularly beautiful. Their open and clean-cut aesthetic is on display with respect for the original architecture and they have since continued to open sites all around London, and one in Manchester.

Blank Street Blueberry Matcha Latte

Blank Street fans await the new menu launches with anticipation, and in March of 2023, they launched what has become the iconic blueberry matcha latte. Matcha works so well with fruit, and blueberry is a perfect pairing for the umami almost savoury flavour of matcha. What makes this matcha latte so different from others is how much newcomers and matcha fans alike enjoy it.

What is on the Blank Street Spring Menu 2024?

This year Blank Street has introduced a White Chocolate Matcha, the Golden Matcha (matcha with turmeric, cinnamon and ginger), and a Cherry Cold Brew Latte.

It is no wonder that two of the three Spring Specials are matcha-based, Blank Street is THE place to go for your matcha cravings. We sent our Community and Marketing Manager, Romy, to try the new flavours to see if they pass the test…

The Golden Matcha

Don’t be put off by turmeric! If you like a chai, you’ll like this the cinnamon comes through especially well. A warming flavour that will be great to get us through the spring showers!

White chocolate

Surprisingly good rating considering I don’t like white chocolate but it is delicious. This one is not as sweet as the blueberry. It reminds me of childhood, it’s a bit like Nutella but not as chocolatey or nutty. Perfect as an afternoon pick-me-up and sweet treat combined!

How to Make a Blueberry Matcha Latte - Iced

Step 1. Depending on how strong you like your matcha sift 1-2 spoonfuls of matcha into a glass and whisk with hot, not boiling water.

Step 2. Add ice to your glass and then your milk, leaving 2 inches at the top.

Step 3. Add your matcha to your milk and then add your blueberry syrup (choose from the recipes below) it’s up to you how much syrup you want to add but start with a teaspoon and go from there.

How to Make a Quick Blueberry Syrup

100g blueberries

100g granulated sugar

Step 1: Combine your sugar and blueberries in a saucepan on medium heat and stir until the sugar is all dissolved and your blueberries have broken down. It will get very hot so be careful!

Step 2: For a smooth syrup sieve your mixture and voila, your syrup is ready to use.

How to Make Traditional Blueberry Cheong

What is Cheong?

Cheong refers to fruit preserved with sugar, so jams and syrups like this blueberry Cheong recipe fall into this category.

Again, you want equal parts blueberries and brown, granulated sugar.

250g Blueberries

250g Granulated Sugar

Step 1. Wash and dry your blueberries, ensure your blueberries are completely dry before the next step.

Step 2. Add a layer of blueberries to a clean Kilner jar followed by a layer of sugar and build up ending with a final layer of sugar.

Step 3: Be patient and leave your jar in a cool, dry dark place for 3 months. This allows the fruits to break down and amalgamate with the sugar creating a delicious syrup.
